What's in the course?
This buzzy weekend course introduces the creative and commercial skills that will help you to write better travel stories and get them published.
Highly interactive sessions are illustrated with extracts from published authors, creating an inspiring and informative atmosphere. Top tutors share their experience and expertise, including an inside view of what magazine and newspaper editors want and how to approach them. There is also an extensive session on writing travel books, and plenty of writing practice.
The course lasts two days, and you can choose to book one or both days. Day 1 (Saturday) covers creative skills and writing exercises, while Day 2 (Sunday) covers getting published.
Key content includes how to describe places and people, how to structure travel articles, how to create mood and use facts, how the market works for books and articles, how to approach editors with your work, examples of good style by top professionals, supportive feedback on your work, recommended reading list, and advice on your next steps.
Expert tutors
Course leader is Jonathan Lorie, former editor of Traveller magazine and director of Travellers' Tales. Jonathan has been teaching travel writing for 7 years and can share a wealth of creative tips.
Special guest speaker on Day 2 is a national newspaper travel editor – your potential buyer!
Together they offer an inspiring view of how to turn your travels into publishable stories.

Our venues are in central London, with good public transport links. Off-street parking is not available.
